Cugini [cu•gi•Ÿni] | noun, Italian | Cousins

Paul McElhinney- Owner and Operator

My love for art and painting has always been founded in family. My parents and grandparents encouraged me to explore art from an early age, and it was only natural that I eventually founded Cugini Painting with my cousin.

My formal training began in my teens when I apprenticed with a company that didn’t let me touch a paintbrush for a year. In the process of “earning” my paintbrush, I developed my attention to detail by focusing on the prep work required, like sanding and filling holes.

My artistic style has been heavily influence by my family’s Italian heritage and my travels through Europe. This exposure to Italian style, art and fashion in my twenties led me to a career in the fashion industry working in and managing a high-end clothing store for ten years. The fashion industry taught me invaluable lessons on running a successful business, providing the highest level of customer service and the importance of self-motivation.

Since 2010, Cugini Painting has been my full-time focus and I have had the pleasure of completing projects throughout Alberta. Cugini Painting has completed projects of all scale, including large 150 unit residential buildings in their entirety, restaurants, offices, and even one-of-a-kind murals for kids rooms. No matter how big or small the project, Cugini Painting takes pride in everything we paint.
